Energy Efficiency Workshop: shared opportunities and garnered interest

Tha Bar Wa organized “Awareness Workshop on Energy Efficiency for the Food & Beverage (F&B) Industry” on June 14th at UMFCCI. This workshop was organized for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) from F& B sector. Entrepreneurs from vermicelli, sesame processing factories, rice mill, preserved fruit, drinking water, snack, and dairy products participated in the workshop. Many participants showed great interest in working with the project for energy efficiency.

With the support of Tha Bar Wa project, U Tin Win, the owner of Red Dragon vermicelli factory was happy to finalize a wastewater treatment plant design for his factory. He has already participated in the workshop on Cleaner Production Practice, in- depth training on wastewater treatment methods and training on wastewater treatment plant design which was organized by Tha Bar Wa project.

Not only F&B entrepreneurs but also women from the inputs suppliers of F&B sector participated in the workshop. Daw Tharaphi Thient, Director of Myanmar Chemical Mart and Daw Khin Cho Thet, Accounting Manager of Swe Myo Myaet Preservative Fruit participated. They confirmed that they will share the information on energy efficiency within their network factories.

U Sein Thaung Oo, Vice President of Myanmar Food Processors and Exporters Association (MFPEA) explained the current and planned activities of the project and policies being discussed among F&B industry and its environmental impacts. He also responded to the questions raised by the participants.

U Win Phae the owner of the sesame processing factory requested Tha Bar Wa project to visit his factory and start an assessment on energy to reduce energy consumption.

Two participants came from Maw Kyun of Ayeyarwady Region and attended this workshop. They requested to Tha Bar Wa to visit their rice mills to do an assessment on wastewater treatment and energy efficiency.

U Min Zaw Oo, factory manager of Hong Kong Vermicilli, shared his experience on energy efficiency, water saving and environmental impacts which he gained through previous workshops and trainings during the workshop. He paticipated in the previous trainings conducted by Tha Bar Wa. He enjoyed one training by Dr.Mu Mu Htay where they did a site visit to the industrial zones to measure wastewater by using testing equitments.
