Factory assessments and trainings on wastewater treatment technology boosts Mandalay Food and Beverage businesses
In July, a 3-day training on wastewater testing and analysis was conducted by a lab supervisor from Green Myanmar Environmental Service and Dr. Mu Mu Htay from Tha Bar Wa Project to the students from Mandalay Technological University (MTU). This training aimed to impart skills to conduct factory assessment and wastewater analysis in the identified factories in Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin.
The trained students with a support from the consultants carried out factory assessment of 15 food & beverage (F&B) factories. During the assessment, measuring water consumption, amount of waste water discharged, collecting wastewater samples were performed. Wastewater test was carried out by the students from the Department of Chemical Engineering, MTU.
A 4-day training on wastewater treatment technology (physical, chemical and biological treatments methods) and design calculations was provided to the students and teachers from MTU. The trained people will design an appropriate waste water treatment plant for each factories based on the experiment results.
As Tha Bar Wa Project promotes cleaner production practices in F&B industry, the above activity supports SMEs from the F&B sector and associated business intermediaries to gain knowledge and capacity to implement sustainable water and energy management practices.
